A few frames with the Boxing Binman

Back in September, I was lucky enough to shoot female boxer Lianne Bush in training at the gym of Leicester legend, Rendall Munroe. I’ve photographed Lianne a few times before (one of which at another legend’s gym no less) but meeting Rendall was pretty cool having watched him box for world titles on TV not many years ago.

Boxers and sports people in general are a mixed bunch. Often success in the ring comes with a big ego and some “interesting” personality traits. It probably speaks to the things that could motivate a person to get punched in the face for a living. Rendall, however, was an absolute gent: generous, funny, engaging and more than willing share stories of his extraordinary career. He is also in superb shape for a 40 year old ex fighter…but claims to have no interest in a comeback!

For her part, Lianne is waiting for news on her pro debut, which was cancelled due to the global pandemic. I’ve seen her fight and watched her train. She’s the real deal and she’s backed by some legit names in the boxing world. She has also held her own sparring some of the top fighters in and around her weight class. I expect her to do big things over the next few years.
